The D.O. is hosting the launch of Feeeels Magazine. The inaugural issue presents 25 emerging and established artists, designers, and writers, many of whom are based in Providence. The launch event will celebrate the work of issue one’s diverse contributors, the support of our advisory board members and sponsors, and the arrival of our print publication! Come meet the team, see the issue (buy one!) and celebrate the launch.

Join us to celebrate ten years as a “thing”. Holiday-esque snacks and adult beverages. Kids welcome provided they place nice with books and phone booths. Open to all.

Join the authors, restaurant owners and book designer to celebrate and discuss their newly released book, Project 258: Making Dinner at Fish & Game. Part cookbook and part guidebook, the book is soulful, useful, funny, and utterly unique — a visually rich document of the ingredients, techniques, and collaborators at the heart of a well-respected Hudson Valley restaurant.

We at the D.O. are more grateful than ever for the local design community. It’s been a vocal and principled group in these last few weeks and there’s more work to be done together in the coming year. We’ll supply drinks, appetizers, some recent work to peruse (or take), and the opportunity to connect with new friends and old. Bring some guests, invite others.

Small-batch goods fill a unique space in an age of simultaneous physical overabundance and mass digitization. The Design Office is hosting a pop-up Market, where members and friends can sell directly to the public, celebrating local distribution of well-made goods. Come talk with our Providence-based designers and bring cash!

The students and teachers in the RISD course “Shaping Language” have spent the semester exploring aspects of ffabschrifting, a dialogic and simultaneous making and writing activity. We invite the public to engage with us in a reading, a presentation, an exhibit, and a conversation about the writer/designer’s relationship to writing and shaping language. Come and share in an evening of wine, treats, words, forms, and ffabschrifting.

Food, friends, families, fun, lights, music, drinks, snacks, booze, pink zebras, holiday cheer and an assortment of D.O. members will all be on hand. And you. We’re appreciative to our collaborators, clients, guests and the greater community for being a part of the D.O. in 2014. As a thank you, we’ve designed some holiday cards for you to take. The Design Office is a constantly evolving entity — the space stays vibrant and vital by responding deftly to the needs of its members. The Phone Booth is a response to the need for a individual compartment housing phone calls, skype meetings, and quiet respite. Join us as we discuss the intention, design, and construction of the Booth, and then give it its proper welcome to the space.

Clambake is a monthly gathering with inspirational talks by and for those interested in design. This month it’s being held at the D.O. with talks by Erik Carlson and Joe Haskett.

Join “Digital City” founders Gary Glassman (Providence Pictures) and Renee Hobbs (Harrington School of Communication at URI) for a brainstorming and launch event to help envision a digital media design and production hub. There will be local craft beer from Revival Brewing and delicious tapas from Flan y Ajo.

This launch event and celebration is being held at The Design Office.

Paper Football brings back memories of pre-digital lunchroom rivalries. Two kids, on opposite sides of a laminate table, pushing a small folded paper triangle back and forth — each hoping to situate the triangle over the edge for six points. To honor this analog communal event, The Design Office will hold a Paper Football tournament this January. We have a 16′ wide table, waxed and ready for kickoff. So put down your smart phone, design a football using the template above, and come down to the Design Office at 5pm, Sunday January 27th.
